ASTM A325 vs. Grade 5 bolts - Portland BoltJul 06, 2010 · Grade 5 bolts are most typically made, and are most readily available in a finished hex bolt configuration. A325 bolts are required to have a heavy hex head. The same thing applies for the compatible nuts. Grade 5 nuts are a finished hex pattern, and A194-2H or A563-DH heavy hex nuts are required for use with A325 bolts.

Bolt Grades What is It? What you should know about itThe bolts of this grade with a nominal size range from 1/4 to 3/4 have a minimum tensile strength of about 57000 psi and the yield strength of sizes from 3/4 to 1/2 36000 psi. Grade 5 Unlike grade 2 bolts, grade 5 bolts feature 5 radial lines. These bolts are manufactured from medium carbon steel.
Grade 5 bolt capability in yield (stretch) = 92,000 lbs / in2 x .03349 in2 = 3081 lbs minimum Grade 5 bolt capability in tension (failure) = 120,000 lbs / in2 x .03349 in2 = 4019 lbs minimum Again, you can see that the grade 8 will support over 1000 lbs more or a 1/2-ton more.

Jun 05, 2020 · The A325 bolt strength, or SAE grade 5 bolt strength, is usually used for structural bolting projects. There are three primary materials used in the making of A325 bolts, and they are:Type 1 medium carbon steel or alloy steel, or boron steel; Type 2 low carbon martensitic steel (this designation was removed from the standard in 1991) Type 3 weathering steel; Differences Between ASTM A325
What Are the Different Grades of Bolts? HunkerA bolt head with three raised dashes in a radial pattern marks an SAE grade 5 bolt of tempered medium carbon steel with a tensile strength of at least 105,000 pounds per square inch. The strongest commercial-quality bolt is grade 8, marked by six raised dashes; its medium-carbon alloy steel has been quenched and tempered to achieve a tensile strength of 150,000 psi.
What Are the Different Grades of Bolts? HunkerIts strength grades are indicated by the letter A plus three numerals stamped on the bolt head. Common ASTM grades include A307, which roughly corresponds to SAE Grade 2. An ASTM A325 bolt is roughly equivalent in strength to SAE Grade 5 and an A490 bolt is about equivalent in strength to SAE Grade 8.
Jul 14, 2020 · Bolt grades include a grading of 2, 5, 8 and 18-8 stainless in the U.S. grade systems. The grade is determined by the material used to construct the bolt and the material properties of the bolt. A grade 2 bolt has no markings on the head of the bolt and is made of low or medium carbon steel.Grade 5 bolt material - Practical MachinistDec 02, 2009 · Commercial grade 5 sold by such as McMaster-Carr simply say Rockwell C hardness of 25 to 34 and a minimum tensile strength of 120,000 psi. 4140HT (also known as pre hard) would be in this general class and not require additional heat treat. It is also readily available. Very similar stuff in the ASTM listings would be ASTM A193 B7.
